    An architect and engineer by training, one could probably best describe Carlo Ratti as a futurist. His main areas of interest include architectural design and use of technologies for the buildings and cities of the future.

    Professor Carlo Ratti teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he is the Senseable City Lab director. He is also a founding partner of Carlo Ratti Associati, an international design office. With regards to his educational background, he is a Politecnico di Torino and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris graduate who later earned his MPhil and Ph.D. at the United Kingdom’s University of Cambridge.

    The co-author of over 500 publications, Carlo Ratti has featured in Esquire Magazine’s “Best and Brightest” list and in Wired Magazine’s “Smart List”. He has also been included in Blueprint Magazine’s “25 People who will Change the World of Design” and named one of the “50 Most Influential Designers in America” by Fast Company. A regular contributor to Project Syndicate, he has written for international media like Scientific Times, The New York Times, the Washington Post, and various others.

    As a holder of several patents, Carlo Ratti has seen his work exhibited at many worldwide venues. Amongst these, he includes the like of the Design Museum in Barcelona, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Science Museum in London, and the Venice Biennale. TIME Magazine included two of his projects, i.e., the Digital Water Pavilion and the Copenhagen Wheel, in their list of “Best Inventions of the Year”.

    As a speaker, Carlo Ratti has a wide area of interest. It includes, amongst others, education, transport and mobility, urban information, technology, media, and analytics. A TED presenter and curator of the Food District pavilion at the 2015 World Expo in Malan, he is also a member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Cities and a special advisor on Urban Innovation to the European Commission.

    He lives in Spain and presents in English and Spanish.
