Carina Bruwer is a paradigm-shifting extreme athlete, SAMA-winning classical musician, and highly sought-after international speaker who embodies the ultimate synthesis of mental fortitude, elite endurance, and creative excellence. Operating at the intersection of high-stakes physical exertion and artistic mastery, she delivers transformative insights into resilience, flow states, and overcoming insurmountable odds. As a globally recognised pioneer in open-water marathon swimming, Carina translates the strategies required to conquer the world’s most treacherous oceans into actionable intelligence for corporate leadership teams and high-performing organisations.
Holding multiple world records, Carina is celebrated as one of the most accomplished open-water swimmers of her generation. Her unprecedented aquatic milestones include being the first woman to round Cape Point, as well as successfully crossing the perilous English Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar, and False Bay. Swimming in extreme, untamed environments—often battling hypothermia, volatile currents, and apex predators—requires a proprietary mental framework rooted in calculated risk management, unwavering focus, and dynamic adaptability. These literal “shark-infested waters” serve as her ultimate testing ground for executive resilience and crisis management.
Beyond her athletic conquests, Carina is the founding member and lead flautist of the internationally acclaimed, South African Music Award (SAMA)-winning instrumental group, Sterling EQ. She is also a successful entrepreneur, having built an entertainment agency that champions artistic talent. Her unique dual-career trajectory demonstrates a profound understanding of how to harmonise structured discipline with fluid creativity—a methodology she explores in depth on stage. This framework empowers business leaders to synchronise passion with purpose, fostering environments where innovation and operational execution operate in perfect concert.
A staunch advocate for using one’s platform to drive systemic change, Carina founded the ‘Swim for Hope’ initiative. Through her extreme endurance swims, she has raised substantial capital and global awareness for paediatric healthcare, childhood development programmes, and cancer research. Her philanthropic endeavours highlight the critical importance of purpose-driven leadership, illustrating how anchoring corporate and individual goals to a broader societal mission can fuel sustainable motivation and long-term success.

“As a full time professional speaker and teacher of other speakers, I can be a little critical. Not unkindly, just looking for improvement. Carina Bruwer has been on the periphery of my life for a few years now. I've interviewed her on radio, been to her shows and read about her extreme swimming exploits in the newspaper. But recently I've had the privilege to help her take her latest presentation to higher level. I should have anticipated it but Carina is a perfectionist. It has to be right and she demanded feedback until she felt her presentation was getting to a place where she was happy. I was invited to listen to her speak at a recent event, aptly called "Be Inspired". I knew her talk but I was not prepared for the consumate display she put on that evening. Her ability as a musician and flautist was first one display. To watch an Afrikaans classical musician magically transform into "Carlos Santana" was not only remarkable but also very moving. She moved on to her incredible career as one of the worlds greatest long distance swimmers. She speaks of her why, how she manages to push herself beyond what most of us consider possible and I was left in awe of the human spirit. But while she was demonstrating her enormous skill and determination I never lost the connection with Carina, the woman. Carina the mother. Carina the person, who just wants to be good at what she does. She is truly incredible and she can add "professional speaker" to her long list of credits. Truly an inspiration!”
