Sergio Nasarre-Aznar is a civil law professor at Universidade Rovira i Virgili in Spain. He holds a European doctorate in law and a master’s degree in real estate economics from the University of Cambridge. He served as a substitute judge at the Tarragona Provincial Court for 15 years, i.e., from 2004 to 2018.
The UNESCO Chair of Housing at URV from 2013 to 2021, Sergio Nasarre-Aznar has served as a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation since 2008. His research contributions earned him the ICREA Prize for Research Excellence from 2016 through 2020. The university recognised him as a Distinguished Professor in 2024.
Sergio Nasarre-Aznar has consulted for various international organisations. These include the European Commission, FAO, and Amnesty International. Notably, he advised the German Ministry of the Interior, Construction, and Community on housing policy during Germany’s 2020 European Presidency. He also participated as an advisor in the “Spain 2050” foresight project for the Spanish government in 2020 and 2021.
Sergio Nasarre-Aznar is the author of five books. Their topics range from housing, the mortgage market, and tort law. His latest efforts deal with the housing crises. He has also collaborated on ten other publications, contributed to 110 scientific papers across 12 countries, and delivered over 300 lectures in 27 nations. Furthermore, he has supervised 12 doctoral theses and contributed to the drafting of five housing-related regulations.
Sergio Nasarre-Aznar has either led or participated in 50 competitive pesquisar projetos, overseeing 17 of them. These include several for the European Commission and European Parliament that focus on leasing, evictions, homelessness, transnational property acquisition, mortgage consumers, and the collaborative economy.
Considered an expert in all things related to property ownership, Sergio Nasarre-Aznar has a stellar history in the fields of property ownership and law. He lives in Spain and speaks Catalan, Spanish, English, and German.
